Get ready to ditch the glitzy stages and studio audiences, because CBS just announced "The Road" (working title), a brand-new singing competition series hitting our screens in fall 2025. This isn't your average talent show – think more "real deal" than "reality TV."
Executive producers Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, Lee Metzger, and David Glasser are teaming up to deliver a docu-follow format that throws aspiring singers into the heart of a headlining superstar's tour. The premise? Perform as opening acts in venues across the country, win over local crowds, and fight for your spot to stay on the road. The contestants will work with Keith Urban on the road and get chances to open for him on tour.
Shelton, no stranger to singing competitions, said, "I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
Sheridan, known for his gritty storytelling, promises a revolution in country music. "No more shiny floors and studio audiences," he declared. "This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd."
“I spent a lot of my underage life playing in some seedy pubs, sometimes just for the bartender. So, I love the idea of throwing artists into a real-world environment, to find out if they are artists," Urban said.
"The Road" promises an unfiltered look at the grueling life of a touring musician. Expect backstage access, tour bus camaraderie, and the raw ambition of artists chasing their dreams. Forget the polished performances, this show is about proving yourself night after night, town after town. Who will survive "The Road" and emerge as the next big star? We'll have to wait until 2025 to find out!
