What do Beyoncé, Spider-Man, and a Virginia-born artist with Nigerian roots have in common? Shaboozey, the genre-bending musician taking the world by storm. His unique blend of country, rap, and pop has propelled him from SoundCloud obscurity to Grammy contender.
Born to Nigerian parents, the artist's moniker came from a high school football coach’s mispronunciation of his last name. It stuck, and Shaboozey was born. He began his musical journey in 2014 as a SoundCloud rapper, but felt his fusion style wasn't fully embraced. A pivotal shift occurred in 2018 when he turned to the country music of his childhood, inspired by his father's influence.
His career trajectory took a dramatic turn with features in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and two appearances on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" album. Then came "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," which smashed Billboard records, holding the number one spot for an astounding 19 weeks and even dethroning Queen Bey herself.
Now, Shaboozey is a five-time Grammy nominee, including nods for Best New Artist and Song of the Year. And if that wasn't enough, he also headlined the Thanksgiving Lions game halftime show.
From SoundCloud rapper to country-infused sensation, Shaboozey’s story is a testament to the power of musical evolution.
